The BWPPA tour returned in 2023 for Event 1, to Savanna Pool & Snooker, Whitefield, Manchester, from the 29-30 April 2023.
They were competing for the first prize of £250, and the title of 2023 We Are Making a Difference Players Champion.
Dave Beaumont came into the event as the undisputed no1, having won the last 2 events, but he knew that the no2 and no3 ranked players, Fred Dinsmore and Roy Kimberley would be up for the fight.
Before the start of play, Dave was presented with the prestigious Nicky Oliver player of the year shield for the 3rd season in a row.
At the start of the event, we welcomed a new player Joe Burns, who really enjoyed his first event, but he was draw against Beaumont, who took the match 7/1, Burns then lost 6/1 to Tony Southern in the losers side after Southern had lost 7/3 to Gary Swift, but Burns will return for more events.
Early action saw Kimberley and Dinsmore have emphatic 7/0 wins over Danny Luton & Darren Brook respectively.
In the winners qualifying round, Beaumont beat Swift 7/5, and Dinsmore took a 7/3 win over old rival Kimberley.
In the losers’ side later stages, Southern beat Kimberley 6/5, whilst Luton beat Swift 6/4, to both reach the semi finals.
The semi-final draw for the main event took place on the Sunday morning.
Dinsmore reached yet another final with a 7-3 win over Southern, and in the other semi-final, Beaumont easily overcome Luton 7-3.
It was to be a Beaumont v Dinsmore v final again, for the 3rd time in a row.
Beaumont started off well to lead 3/0. Finding his game Dinsmore made some great single long pots and clearances to lead at 4/3, and then Beaumont took 3 in a row to go 6/4 ahead. Dinsmore than took 2 in a row, to take the final to hill-hill for the 3rd time in a row.
Beaumont held his nerve in the deciding frame, and after a miss on the 5 ball from Dinsmore, Beaumont went around the table doing what he does best and potting balls, and left himself a long 9 ball which he made (closely watching the cue ball as it flirted with the middle pocket) into the pocket to take the title, and cement his position as no1 in the rankings.
A video of the main event final is available to watch here.
In the challenge cup final, just 2 players remained and they tossed a coin with Darren Brook won over Roy Kimberley.
