It is with the upmost pleasure that BWPPA can announce that the Kamui Brand have agreed to extendtheir sponsorship of the tour into a 4th season.
Kamui have over the last few years, become world renowned as a leader in the tip industry and make the tips most used by the best wheelchair and professional players.
Combined with the Kamui chalk, their products provide all of our players with a perfect way to enhance their game.
Roy Kimberley, the Chairperson of the BWPPA tour had this to say, “The BWPPA committee and all of its players, are very proud that the Kamui Brand will continue into 2014, joining a ever growing list of sponsors who continue to support the biggest and most competitive wheelchair pool tour in the world.
Virtually all the players on the tour are now using Kamui tips, and with this 3rd year of support, I’m sure the rest of the players will start using the Kamui tips.
In 2014, BWPPA is proudly sponsored by the Gentlemen’s Night Out, Simonis Cloth, Predator Cues, Riley’s Pool Clubs, AB Wallace Trophies, Magic Rack, The Escape Pool Bar, and of course the Kamui Brand. making the perfect combination of the every best equipment in the best clubs in the country.
The GB Team consisting of Roy Kimberley, Matt Duffy, Danny Luton and captain Tony Southern, arrived at the Gold Reef City Casino and Theme Park, Johannesburg, South Africa, with high hopes of medals at these prestigious championships, which ran from 8-12 December 2013, it was a surreal atmosphere as we arrived just after the death of Nelson Mandela, and would be in the country right up till the day before his funeral.
High quality matches and dramatic decisions characterize the wheelchair competition, with many outstanding players amongst the 16 man fields, but this time there was no clear favourite, but in the mix as well as all the brits were 3 times gold medalist Jouni Tahti (Finland), double 2013 EPC champion Fred Dinsmore (Ireland), and defending Champion Henrik Larsson (Sweden).
In the 1st round there was the battle of the big guns, as Southern and Dinsmore met in a repeat of the EPC 9-ball final 8 months previously, and it was the same score line as Dinsmore prevailed 7-5. Duffy also had a tough draw losing 7-4 to Tahti. Kimberley and Luton had easier draws against 2 novice South African players and won 7-0 and 7-4 respectively.
Another big first round game saw defending champion Larsson lose 7-5 to Kurt Deklerck (Belgium)
In the losers bracket round 1 Southern has a walkover against Bob Calderon (USA) who failed to show after he mixed up the start times. Duffy had a 7-4 win over Rian Janse Van Densburg (RSA)
In the winners round, Kimberley lost 7-3 to Tahti, and Luton lost 7-6 to Emil Schranz (Austria).
In the losers round 2, Duffy beat Luton 7-4, Southern beat Mark Jones (USA) 7-1, and Kimberley beat Jan Bothma (RSA) by the same score.
Onto the losers round 3 and in a another battle of the brits, Southern beat Duffy 7-4, and Kimberley knocked Larsson out of the event with a 7-5 win.
In the winners qualifying round Dinsmore had a great result, beating Tahti 7/6 (they would meet again !!) to reach the semi-finals. Deklerck also made the semis, taking out Schranz 7-4.
The losers qualifying were one sided, with Tahti beating Southern 7-2 on the TV table, and Kimberley hammering Schranz 7-1
In the first semi-final Dinsmore edged out Kimberley 7-5 and the in the other semi-final Tahti beat Deklerck by the same score line.
In a rather subdued final, Dinsmore was not his usual self, and was soon 6-1 down, he did pull 2 back, and a chance for a 3rd, but it was not to be as it was Tahti who pounced and won his 4th World Crown.
The championships that were co-hosted alongside the junior and girls’ world championships gained lots of media attention throughout the entire 10 days. Media representatives from print and Internet media have covered the Championships. The highlight was the live coverage on the web from www.kozoom.com, of most of the tables.
Once again we would like to give thanks to all our sponsors.
Predator/Poison Cues, Talisman Billiards, Kamui Tips, The Gentlemen’s Night Out Charity, Magic Racks, Escape Pool Bar, Wallace Trophies, Simonis Cloths and Riley’s snooker & pool clubs.

The concluding tour stop of Europe’s largest wheelchair pool tour was held at the Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley, with the Predator British Wheelchair 9-ball Championshi
Aslam Abubaker became the only player in the tours history to deny Roy Kimberley top spot on the tour at the end of a season, as he won his third event in a row on tp, which attracted a strong field, including a new player on tour Joe Atherton. This was the final event for some of the tours players before heading off to the World 9 Ball Championships in South Africa from 7-13 December; see here for more details of that event.
he BWPPA tour by defeating Tony Southern 7-6. Kimberley went into the event knowing that only finishing 2 places above Abubaker could get him back to the no 1 spot.
In the early rounds there were good wins for Matt Lester, Gary Swift and Nicky Oliver.
Abubaker almost got his campaign off to a poor start after receiving a first round bye, he was in a great match with Swift that swung one way then another, and went to
hill-hill. Swift had a great chance to take it but overrun his pot on the 8 ball, to leave the cue ball on the side cushion and a tricky 9 ball, after composing himself he got down on the shot but overcut it, handing the rack to Abubaker, you could see the frustration on Swift’s face as he really should have won the match.
Abubaker then had a 7-3 win over Phil Hendrickson, and then faced Swift again in the semi-final, but on this occasion Abubaker flew through the match with a 7-3 win to advance to the final, and ensure his position as no 1.
In the other half of the draw, Southern was on the end of a surprise 7-4 defeat to Poland’s Leszek Blumczynski, (who had also beaten Craig Welsh in the first round 7-5) which sent Southern to the losers bracket, where after dispatching Pete Dawson 6-2, he then defeated Hendrickson 6-1 to reach a semi-final with old rival Kimberley, with the winner taking the no 2 ranking spot.
In a high class match, Southern led 4-1 before Kimberley reeled off 4 racks in a ro
w, but it was Southern who kept his nerve to run out a 7-5 winner, booking his place in the final.
Southern and Abubaker were to meet in the final. Abubaker opened up an early lead then Southern pulled level at 4-4, and with a bit of good luck Abubaker went 6-4 up, then the rolls started going with Southern as he took the match to hill-hill, and in the last rack escaped from a tricky snooker and fluked the object ball, this give him a chance to run out, but his luck deserted him as his tricky positional shot left him almost touching the 8 ball. Faced with an almost impossible shot, he left it for Abubaker who took the title.
ce Trophies, Kamui Tips and Magic Rack. After the final Abubaker said of his win “I would like to thank all the staff at the Escape Pool Bar especially George Vetters who made us feel really welcome as always, also thanks to the tournament director Al John. On a personal note obviously I’m delighted to end the year at no 1, but also winning an Ikon 2 cue worth over £900 kindly provided by our friends at Predator. In addition to thanking Predator, I would like to also thank all the other sponsors of the tour, Gentlemen’s Night Out, Simonis Cloths, Riley’s Pool Clubs, Talisman Cases, AB Walla
The Challenge Cup final was won by Welsh, who beat Hendrickson 5-4, but it was Hendrickson who took the overall 2013 challenge top spot, and with it the ‘Poison Bolt 3 cue’ from tour sponsors Predator cues.
Tony Southern also won a ‘Sneaky Pete cue’ for his final ranking position.
Roy Kimberley won a ‘VX Black Belt Jump Cue’ for finishing 3rd
Craig Welsh won a personalised Talisman Case for finishing 4th.
Gary Swift and Fred Dinsmore each won a Poison Case for their 6th and 7th place in the rankings.
A partial video of the main event final is available here, (there were technical issues preventing a full recording of the first 2 racks) pictures of the event will be here in the BWPPA gallery.

SEASON REVIEW
Well done to Aslam Abubaker for taking the no 1 ranking in 2013, and winning 3 ranking events (events 3, 4 and 5).
Tony Southern is at no 2 although he is on on the same points as Kimberley, due to the last event results.
Congratulations also to Craig Welsh, who has improved greatly this season to finish at no 4.
We have had some new players this year and hope to continue this trend and see more new players next year as we move to a new base at the Pool Academy at Stoke Mandeville.
The 2014 BWPPA tour is scheduled to commence on 15-16 March 2014 in Stoke Mandeville at our new permanent base there. We will be hosting 3 events a year there, and also 2 events in Barnsley, back at the Escape Pool Bar.
Best of luck to the BWPPA Team of Roy Kimberley, Tony Southern, Danny Luton, Matt Duffy and Fred Dinsmore at the World Championships.

It is with great pride that I can officially announce that the pool legend and future hall of fame member ‘Dynamite’ Darren Appleton has agreed to become the patron of the British W
heelchair Pool Players Association (BWPPA)
Darren has been raising funds for the 5 BWPPA players going to the World Wheelchair 9-ball Championships in December in South Africa.
He has been doing this by auctioning some of his playing shirts from his big events, and this raised a total of £550 for the team, he also got his good friend Luke Riches from Matchroom Sport involved and he auctioned a signed frame poster from all the 16 players who
attended the recent World Pool Masters in Barnsley, this raised £210 and Luke’s partner Zana also donated £200, so overall £960 has been raised in just a few weeks.
After the auction had finished Darren saidCongratulations and thanks so much to the winning bidder Dawn Bell for bidding on all 3 shirts to raise funds for the British wheelchair players to go South Africa, and to the other donators.
I want to thank you all, and I wish you all the best in South Africa, it’s a great country and you guys inspire me so much it makes me emotional, and you have given me the great honor to be a patron for the wheelchair tour, which I humbly accept and I will do my best to raise the profile of the tour, and help you all with fundraising.
It is an honor for us Darren to have you as our patron.
Darren is pictured at a recent BWPPA with tour stop winner Fred Dinsmore.

Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 4th BWPPA event of the season on 28/29 September 2013.
Aslam Abubaker won his 2nd tour event in a row beating Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore in the final, and with it became only the 4th player in the history of the tour to take the top spot in the rankings.
Abubaker went into the event as one of 4 or 5 players still in realistic contention for the no.1 spot at the end of the season which not only brings with it its own prestige, but also a lovely Icon 2-7 cue from our generous friends at Predator.
Again we had a good turnout as 15 players entered, although some missed the event through illness and several players who made the event were suffering with colds and coughs !!. Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore again making the trip, and he was one of the ones not well, but still had a good weekend, making the final.
Abubaker got his campaign off to a poor start with a 7-3 loss to Danny Luton, who was the one to avoid in the first round, as he is a regular top 3-4 ranked player.
Abubaker had to battle through the long route on the losers side, first he beat Roger Hales 6-2, then Poland’s Leszek Blumczynski 6-3, and then whitewashed John Greensmith 6-0.
In the losers qualifier it was back on familiar ground as he again faced Luton, but it was a different story as Abubaker ran through Luton with a 6-0 win and advance to the semi-final.
This took Abubaker through to a semi-final with Roy Kimberley. Kimberley had beaten Greensmith 7-0 and Dinsmore 7-3 after receiving a first round bye as no 1 seed. This was a high quality match with both players playing some good pool, however it was Abubaker who advanced into the final with a 7-6 score line.
In the other half of the draw, Dinsmore won his first two matches to advance to the winners qualifier where he lost to Kimberley, where he would meet Gary Swift in a titanic match, in an amazing last rack, where Swift on 2 occasions had a chance at what seemed a simple combination on the 10 ball, but it would not drop and Dinsmore took the match 6-5.
In semi-final he faced Tony Southern who had come through 3 matches on the winners side. In a good match Dinsmore roared into a 6-2 lead, and then the comeback started, 4 racks on the trot and it was hill-hill, and Southern had a glorious chance to tie Dinsmore up with 4 balls left, but left a difficult chance which Dinsmore took to advance to the final.
It looked like it would be a one sided final, as Abubaker took a 3-1 and 6-2 lead, but in a weekend of hill-hill games, Dinsmore dragged himself back into it, and had a great chance in the last rack but over hit his shot on the 9 ball, leaving himself a tricky 10 ball which he missed, and Abubaker calmly doubled the 10 to win the match
5-
After the final Abubaker said of his win “I would like to thank George Vetters and all the staff at the Escape Pool Bar, we are always made welcome, and we are delighted to be coming back in November, as the new permanent venue at Stoke Manderville is not quite ready yet. On a personal note I’m really pleased to be playing well again.
I would like to also thank all the other sponsors of the tour, Gentlemen’s Night Out, Simonis Cloths, Riley’s Pool Clubs, Talisman Cases, Magic Rack, AB Wallace Trophies, Kamui Tips and Predator Cues, as well as my own personal sponsors, Club 147, Knight Recruitment and Choices Furniture.
The Challenge Cup final was won by Danny Luton who beat Phil Hendrickson 5-3.

Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 3rd BWPPA event of the season on 20/21 July 2013.
Aslam Abubaker won his first tour event in almost 3 years by beating Roy “The Sandman” Kimberley in the final. Abubaker went into the event on the back of some great form on the Total 9 Ball Tour.
Again we had a great turnout as 17 players entered, with Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore yet again making the trip, and he had real determination to better his performances in the previous few BWPPA events.
Abubaker got his campaign off to a great start with a 7-3 win over Phil Hendrickson, who was the one to avoid in the first round, as he is a regular top 3-4 ranked player. Abubaker’s next win was must closer as he beat Dinsmore 7-6 in a battle of the big hitters.
In the next round it was back on familiar ground as he again faced high ranked Phil Hendrickson. This was a great match which Abubaker took with a 7-5 win and advance to the semi-final where he would meet Tony Southern.
Southern had beaten John Greensmith 7-3, Frankie Gillen 7-2 and relative newcomer Roger Hales 7-3. This was a high quality match with both players playing some good pool, however it was Abubaker who advanced into the final with a 7-4 score line.
In the other half of the draw, Kimberley won his first two matches to advance to the quarter finals, where he would meet the player he most wanted to avoid, Dinsmore, who had come through on the losers side. In a good match Kimberley won 7-4 to advance to a semi-final against the much improved Craig Welsh who was in his 2nd semi-final in a row, Welsh raced into a 3-0 lead but it was Kimberley who roared back and won 7-3 to book a spot in the final with Abubaker.
In a rather one sided final, with the aid of some good runs Abubaker raced into a 5-1 lead, which Kimberley pulled back to 6-3, but that was the closest he came and Abubaker completed the job with a 7-3 win.
After the final Abubaker said of his win “I would like to thank all the staff at the Escape Pool Bar, we are always made welcome, and we are delighted to be coming back in September. On a personal note obviously I’m really pleased to be playing some good pool again, I have brought my Total 9 Ball form to the BWPPA events. In addition to thanking The Escape Pool Bar, I would like to also thank all the other sponsors of the tour, Gentlemen’s Night Out, Simonis Cloths, Riley’s Pool Clubs, Talisman Cases, Magic Rack, AB Wallace Trophies, Kamui Tips and Predator Cues, as well as my own personal sponsors.
The Challenge Cup final was won by Hendrickson who beat Hales 5-4.

Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 2nd BWPPA event of the season on 18/19 May 2013.
Roy “The Sandman” Kimberley regained the top spot on the tour from Tony Southern, as he
wins his third event out of four on the BWPPA tour. Kimberley went into the
event knowing that only a higher finish than Southern could get him back to the no 1 spot.
This was the biggest field in a number of years as 17 players entered, with Alexander Prokopiev again making the 7,000 mile trip from Yakutsk, Sakha, Russia, (just north of Japan), and Poland’s Leszek Blumczynski also entering, although he now lives in the UK.
It could have been an even better turn out as several tour regulars such as Matt Duffy, Shaun Madin and Danny Luton were absent.
Kimberley got his campaign off to great start with a 7-3 win over old rival Aslam Abubaker, who was the one to avoid in the first round, as his recent absences meant he was way down the rankings, and a dangerous player to meet at such an early stage.
Roy’s next win was just as convincing with a 7-2 win over John Robinson. It was a more difficult match for Kimberley in the next round as this time he faced high ranked Phil Hendrickson. This was a great match that Kimberley took with a 7-5 win and advance to the semi-final.
This took Kimberley through to a semi-final with Gary Swift. This was a high quality match with both players playing some good pool, however it was Kimberley who advanced into the final with a 7-4 score line.
In the other half of the draw, Southern won his first two matches to advance to the quarter finals, where he would meet the player he most wanted to avoid, Abubaker had come through 3 matches on the losers side, in a very scrappy match Abubaker beat Southern 7-5 to advance to a semi-final against the much improved Craig Welsh who was enjoying a great event and had three good wins, but it was one game too far for Welsh and Abubaker won 7-2 to book a spot in the final with Kimberley.
In a classic match which saw some high quality pool, with the match swinging one way and then the other, it went all the way to a hill-hill finish, but it was Kimberley who blinked first, missing a makeable 7-ball in the last rack with 8 and 9 in the open, Abubaker took the 7 leaving him straight in on the 8 ball, with 9 ball just past the middle pocket, a stun shot would have left it slightly difficult on the 9, so he decided to screw the cue back a few inches for perfect position. This proved to be a fatal error as he rushed the shot and missed the 8 ball, and as it rolled over the bottom pocket, Abubaker conceded frame and match to Kimberley.
After the final Kimberley said of his win “I would like to thank all the staff at the Escape Pool Bar, we are always made welcome, and we are delighted to be coming back in July. On a personal note obviously I’m really pleased to be back to no.1 and playing some good pool again. In addition to thanking The Escape Pool Bar, I would like to also thank all the other sponsors of the tour, Gentlemen’s Night Out, Simonis Cloths, Riley’s Pool Clubs, Talisman Cases, Magic Rack, AB Wallace Trophies, Kamui Tips and Predator Cues.
The Challenge Cup final was won by Frankie Gillen who beat Adam Pearson 5-3, both had career best wins over Hendrickson and Southern respectively in the semi finals, in this handicapped event. After the event Gillen had this to say:
“I am really pleased to have won my first Challenge event this season and hopefully there will be many more wins for me this year.
When I won I shouted out so loud ‘C’MON…!’, raised my arms up’n’down so fast & punched in the air with my hand.
Here is a video clip of me with…… eerrmmm…. I won’t say it, just watch & you will like it. Make sure you got the volume on up loud. “
